Android is Alive on Axim!
This post is twofold. One to inform our bloggers that are still carrying the Smartphonemag torch here that we now have a new blog category pulldown that allows you to tag posts by operating system type (This post being obviously about getting Android to run on my Dell Axim x51)...and secondly a bit of a teaser about getting Android running on an Axim...haha (it's a very early debug build, so don't get any hopes up yet).
So no one think It's just a screenshot...yep, it's really booting, etc.

My weekly column returns after a hiatus of nearly two months. And just in time, because the world of Windows Phone 7 is heating up. Windows Phone 7 software is now in the hands of manufacturers, images of forthcoming devices are appearing online, and detailed reviews from those who’ve been using prototypes are being posted.

Skepticism Mounts Regarding Microsoft’s Mobile Platform
I really hate to contribute to the mounting skepticism regarding whether Windows Phone 7 has a chance, because at a certain point it can become self-fulfilling. On the other hand, you as consumers need to make choices, so it’s important to be open about the issues. And those issues are: Will developers be motivated to create apps? Will manufacturers make the phones? And, Will Microsoft maintain a steadfast commitment to the mobile platform?

SoftMaker Office 2010 Mobile Version Available!

I use the excellent SoftMaker Office on both my Windows Mobile device and my Windows 7 laptop. It's not only a cheaper alternative to the MS Office desktop, but the mobile version has excellent functionality that far surpasses the (now free) MS Mobile version. If you are going to try travelling sans computer, and instead use your mobile as a real portable office space, you need SoftMaker Office.

An Early Death for Microsoft's KIN Phone Series

Only six weeks after a massive launch of Microsoft's new KIN series phones, a story on Gizmodo claims that Microsoft has pulled the plug on the product line due to extremely low sales figures.
The as of yet unconfirmed story appears to be legit with a press release statement from Microsoft. After searching the websites of Microsoft and Verizon Wireless, I was unable to confirm this information with any official press releases, however the story seems to be valid.

Windows Phone 7 Coming in October!
It’s not an official announcement, but the evidence, including a passing comment by a Microsoft exec, suggests that Windows Phone 7 will launch in October. This week we’ll also note more information about this forthcoming software, as well as yet another video demo on a prototype device. And we’ll cover the interesting news that Microsoft will be launching a new mobile OS for enterprise based on Windows Mobile 6.5.
