Compaq releases Dual PC Card Expansion Pack for iPAQ

Compaq has introduced a new Expansion Pack for its iPAQ Pocket PCs that holds two Type II PC cards or one Type III PC card. This will allow iPAQ users to perform simultaneous operations, such as using a PC Card modem or barcode scanner and a storage card at the same time, or accessing a wireless local or wide area network while using an input/output device. This Expansion Pack also includes a CF-to-PC card adapter that lets you use a CF card with the Expansion Pack. The new Pack includes a built-in rechargeable battery that has twice the capacity of the battery in the single-slot PC Card Expansion Pack, according to Compaq. The Dual PC Card Expansion Pack will be available in mid-April, with a U.S. suggested retail price of $199. Additional information on the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC and options can be found at: www.compaq.com/products/handhelds/pocketpc.

We had a few unanswered questions on this one as we went to press. We assume it will work with the single-slot PC Card Expansion Pack also, but could not get direct confirmation from Iomega or Compaq. It may also work with Handheld PC 2000 computers like the HP Jornada 720 and NEC MobilePro 790.
