From the Judges of the Pocket PC magazine Best Software Awards 2004
Over 80 experts judged 543 nomination for Pocket PC magazine Best Software Awards 2004. Our judges had plenty to say about their favorite products. In this issue we are publishing their comments about the programs nominated for the Internet and Multimedia software categories. These categories include Web browsers, news readers, audio, video, drawing, and other applications. The purpose of publishing the comments is to give insights into a variety of products—not to show how the judges voted. The winners and finalists can be found on our Web site (http://www.smartphonemag.com/awards/main.asp). For the sake of brevity, we've included only one comment per product and edited them for clarity. Internet
NetFront w/JV light2
http://www.access-us-inc.com
"NetFront remains my choice for the best browser because it offers an experience almost equal to the PC Web browsers. Its Smart-Fit Rendering reformats Web pages to fit the width of the screens on mobile devices. NetFront offers an interface for authorization, SSL client identification, and robust enterprise-grade security and access control. It also provides multi-window browsing, zooming, file download and upload, and Google and Yahoo support! Internet search bars and Sun Microsystems Personal Java 1.2 are also supported."

Egress

PocketRSS

"Both PocketRSS and Egress do a great job of downloading RSS feeds and displaying them on the relatively tiny Pocket PC screen. The developers of both applications offer great support for their software. I personally prefer the clear Egress interface and the high amount of customization it offers, but PocketRSS isn't far behind."

Skweezer

"Skweezer provides a fast and effective Web-based service that reformats standard Web pages, optimizing them for the smaller screens on Pocket PCs and Smartphones, and eliminating side scrolling. You can configure your Skweezer home page to pick up your POP3 e-mail. In addition you can also use Plaxo with Skweezer to access your Contacts list on the Web. The yearly subscription fee is very affordable."
