This portable floppy disk drive attaches to your H/PC PC Card slot and lets you read and write to 720k, 1.44MB, or 120MB floppy disks.
The Travel 120 SuperDisk Drive is one more data storage and backup alternative for Handheld PC users. The Travel 120 is a small, lightweight and very portable floppy disk drive that accepts standard 720K and 1.44MB floppy disks, as well as the newer 120MB "super disks."
Travel 120 connects to a Handheld PC or notebook computer via a PC Card interface cable. Once installed and attached, the Travel 120 appears in Windows Explorer as a Storage Card. You can use Explorer to transfer files back and forth between the H/PC's internal memory and floppy disks in Travel 120.
Installation is simple. Connect your H/PC to your desktop PC and run Travel 120's SetupCE application. This installs a special driver on the H/PC that lets it "see" Travel 120. Then, slip the 120's PC Card interface into the H/PC's card slot, and insert a floppy disk. You're ready to start transferring files back and forth. Since the H/PC thinks Travel 120 is just another storage card, you can use utilities (like bUSEFUL Backup Plus, www.bsquare. com) to backup your H/PC's data.
Although the Travel 120 is designed to take its power from the host's PC Card slot, the H/PC does not have enough power to operate it. The Travel 120 comes with an AC power adapter that you have to use when connecting to an H/PC.
Floppy disks are a slower medium than flash cards, and it takes longer to transfer data back and forth. Still, the Travel 120 is pretty fast. I'd probably use it on the road to backup portable computers and carry important but not immediately needed documents and other data. Even with the AC adapter, Travel 120 is light and small enough to carry in a briefcase. But you do have to find a power outlet to use it.
The Travel 120 SuperDisk Drive has the advantage of being compatible with a variety of operating systems, including Windows CE 2.0 and above, Windows 3.x, 95/98, and DOS. The computer must have a PC Card slot to connect to Travel 120. It also has the advantage of using standard floppy storage media, which means that it makes it pretty easy for someone else to give you documents or other data.
