Where did all the comments go? Oh ....

Strange. We recently put up this blog site with the new look and underlying Drupal Content Management System. Nobody seemed to be commenting. Was it because we asked people to register? (We only ask for valid E-mail address which helps eliminate spam). Did it have to do with the new look?  Long story. It turns out, people were commenting!!!! However, counter on the blog stating number of comments was not being incremented, discouraging new comments and replies.
We really do want to hear from readers. If nothing else, it reassures us that someone is reading these posts, which makes us feel our efforts are worth while. Soon we will add a comments module to blog and archive pages. That way everyone can see the most recent comments, wherever they are posted. Also, by default, if you comment on someone’s blog, you will subscribe to it, so you know if someone commented back.

I'll comment also, and subscribe to this post!

As your main Drupal guy, I have to say that it sometimes works in mysterious ways.  Arthur C. Clarke famously said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.  I think he probably had Harry-Potter-style magic in mind when he said that, but in my experience voodoo is a better comparison!  This morning the comment counters were not incrementing.  I corrected their counts via a database query, and now they appear to be incrementing properly.  It was about as precise as poking a doll with a needle, but it did the trick.

Oh, and brilliant post, Hal!  ;-)
