Why I chose Windows Mobile as my preferred handheld device platform

I consider myself a hardware pragmatist. I am OS agnostic. I use whatever tool best suits my needs. With each new innovation, I include past history with a product's manufacturer only briefly in my assessment of overall value. Given those underpinnings, I still see no equal in the mobile platform arena when it comes to Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform. Even the flashy though not yet shipping Apple iPhone does not meet the number of requirements, versatility and depth that Windows Mobile delivers. Some key attributes of the platform that guarantee my next mobile device purchase will be running the Windows Mobile OS include:

  1. Extensibility - Memory expansion slots means you can carry around additional application, media and program files to be ready whenever you need them.
  2. Flexibility - Like the PC market, I can choose from a broad selection of vendors offering a mix and match of features that meet my needs.
  3. Vast Software Ecosystem - nearly every type of software application you need is available for the platform, from standard office applications like task lists, text editors and spreadsheet graphing utilities to high-quality audio recorders, instrument tuners and even complete diet and fitness training programs.
  4. Wireless - Bluetooth, Wifi and mobile phone connectivity means that I've got the whole world in my hands.
