Microsoft Updates “My Phone” Service; Windows Phone 7 and HD2 Videos

Microsoft’s My Phone is a great free service for backing up your phone, and now it’s just gotten better. This week I’ll also point you to more videos and news about Windows Phone 7 and T-Mobile’s HD2, as well as news about a couple new devices.

Microsoft’s Free “My Phone” Updated

Microsoft's My Phone lets you back up everything on your Windows Mobile phone. If you get a new phone, or heaven forbid, lose your phone, you can use My Phone to put all of your data on your new phone.

The service also lets you easily share your photos to Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, and Windows Live. And it can help you find your lost phone by showing on a map the last known location of your phone based on where it last synced or shared photos using My Phone.

New to version 1.6 is the ability to edit and manage your contacts and appointments using the My Web interface via your desktop computer. Any changes you make will automatically appear on your phone the next time it syncs. You can also use your desktop computer to upload photos to My Phone, which then syncs them to your phone.

Also, with version 1.6 you can sync via WiFi.

The My Phone website has a helpful demo, and additional information about the various features.

Windows Phone 7 Walk-Through; Zune Software Demo

This past week Microsoft changed the name of this new software once again. It had been Windows Phone 7 Series, but now, thankfully, they’ve dropped the word “Series.â€

One of the main things people are excited about is the new media software. Say goodbye to Windows Media Player, and hello Zune. There’s a demo video on YouTube that shows the Zune experience on Windows Phone 7.

Also, PocketNow has posted a walk-through video of Windows Phone 7 recorded at the recent CTIA trade show.

ZDNet has posted a helpful brief Q&A about Windows Phone 7 that clarifies some of the basics, such as whether it will support multitasking and whether Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace will be the only way to buy software.

T-Mobile HD2 Hardware Tour

PocketNow has reported that the T-Mobile’s HD2 not only sold out the first day, but that the second shipment also quickly sold out. This is one popular device.

PocketNow has also posted a hardware tour video.

Updates to YouTube and Outlook Mobile Software

A few weeks ago Google released an update to their YouTube software for Windows Mobile. And for those using Windows Mobile 6.1, Microsoft released Outlook Mobile Update 1.0 a few weeks ago.

New Devices: HTC HD Mini, Toshiba K01

According to PocketNow, the HTC HD Mini is like the HD2, but smaller, and is rumored to be available on April 7 in Europe. It’s the first phone with 480x320 HVGA resolution, and like the HD2 it has a multitouch display and the HTC Sense interface. If you buy the European version, you won’t get 3G, since it doesn't have the necessary bands for the U.S.

PocketNow has also posted info about the rumored Toshiba K01, which sounds like an impressive device, with a 4.1-inch AMOLED capacitive multitouch display.
