More HD2 Videos & Reviews; Windows Marketplace News
The HTC HD2 continues to dominate the Windows Mobile buzz. And for good reason. This week I’ll point you to more videos showing the device and its interface, as well as in-depth reviews. And I’ll briefly note news related to Windows Marketplace.
Video Tours of HD2 Interface and Hardware
A lot of attention has been given to the HD2 because of its 4.3-inch capacitive screen, but the user interface is getting almost as much buzz. Basically, it sits on top of the Windows Mobile interface and gives you a new, finger-friendly way of interacting with it.
The interface is now being called HTC Sense, having been previously called TouchFlo 3D. The problem with this and other touch interfaces is that even though the home screen may be touch friendly, you often end up needing to use a stylus for certain things. HTC Sense, however, is now making it possible for you to more consistently interact with the device via touch.
PocketNow has posted a video tour of the Sense interface and notes that the integration with Windows Mobile is deeper than ever before. They describe it as an entirely new experience that’s quite fantastic. Plus, HTC has integrated a range of apps, including, for example, a Twitter client.
PocketNow has also posted a hardware tour video, giving you a good look at the screen and the hardware keys. Their unboxing video suggests that the device is very pocketable despite having such a large screen, and they compare the size to other devices to give you a sense for exactly how big it is.
HD2 In-Depth Reviews
No doubt the most comprehensive review of the device is that by 4WinMobile. It talks about every facet of the device, gives benchmarks, ratings, discussion of all the included software, sample photos and video taken by the device, complete specs, numerous screenshots, and more. The reviewer is exceedingly enthusiastic about the phone, calling it a fantastic device and one that does everything at supersonic speeds.
TechRadar offers a similarly detailed review. And it concludes that “The HTC HD2 smashes past the iPhone in terms of raw processing speed and the ability to handle Flash video.” But the reviewer says that it’s inherently problematic that the interface is built on top of Windows Mobile and that sometimes there are glitches.
Video Demos of HD2 Capacitive Display and of Web Browsing
PocketNow has posted a video that focuses on the capacitive display in the HD2, showing some of the third-party apps and how responsive the device is. Plus, they review all the software that supports multitouch. They’ve also posted a listing of the included applications that support multitouch.
Yet another video demos web browsing on that gorgeous 4.3-inch display, and compare it with an iPhone 3Gs. And there’s a video that shows the digital compass app and how it integrates with GPS and Google Maps.
