Office Mobile 2010, Opera Mobile 10, Verizon Samsung Omnia, More HD2

A free beta of Office Mobile 2010 was released last week for WM 6.5 devices. And Opera Mobile 10, perhaps the best Windows Mobile browser, was also released as a free beta. This week we’ll also note the imminent arrival of the Verizon’s Samsung Omnia II and look at more videos of the HD2 software.

Office Mobile 2010 Free Beta

If you use a touchscreen phone that’s running Windows Mobile 6.5, you can now download a free beta of Office Mobile 2010 in Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint Workspace. You can read more in the press release, which includes an interview with a senior Microsoft executive and covers not just the mobile version but also the desktop version of Office 2010, which is also available for download on Microsoft’s site.

Opera Mobile 10 Free Beta

Opera has long produced one of the best browsers for Windows Mobile devices, and now they’ve released a free beta of the latest version. Apparently this new version integrates most of the features of their desktop browser.

The features include tabbed browsing, speed dial (one-click access to your favorite websites), a password manager, touchscreen or keypad navigation, the ability to save images, and the ability to access nearly any website.

Download it by pointing your mobile browser at m.opera.com/mobile. You can read more in the press release and see a walkthrough video on PocketNow.

Verizon’s Samsung Omnia II Coming Dec. 2

The Samsung Omnia II is an impressive phone with an iPhone-like form factor. It’s a sequel to the original Omnia, which generally got good reviews. But at this stage, most of the excitement is focusing on the forthcoming HD2, so the response to the arrival of the Omnia II has been a bit ho hum.

According to Engadget, it will be $200 with a contract and after a $100 rebate. It has a 3.7-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, and, of course, Windows Mobile 6.5.

You can see a short video overview of an early version of the phone on CNet.

Video of the HD2's Remote Desktop Mobile

PocketNow continues to post videos and screenshots of the interface and software on the forthcoming HTC HD2, the buzzworthy device with a 4.3-inch capacitive multitouch screen and new touch interface.

One of the built-in apps that will come with the device is a modified version of Remote Desktop, which will allow you to access your PC via your phone — and navigate more easily using the multitouch capability. You can see a demo video of Remote Desktop on PocketNow.

Also, PocketNow has posted a video of the digital compass.
