Touch Pro2 Devices Imminent from Four Carriers; Verizon’s Omnia
As PocketNow.com points out, it’s rare for one device to be released from the four major carriers in the U.S. But that’s happening with the HTC Touch Pro2, which is imminent. This week I’ll point you to specs on the devices, a video of the version coming from Verizon, as well as update you on the Omnia from Verizon.
Specs and Release Dates Touch Pro2
According to PocketNow, which is avidly tracking the forthcoming releases, T-Mobile’s Touch Pro2 could by out as early as this week. September 3 is the date they give for the version from Sprint, and Verizon’s is also expected in September.
This is sometimes said to be one of the most popular Windows Mobile phones ever. It has a slideout QWERTY keyboard, iPhone-like TouchFlo 3D interface, and 3.6-inch screen.
The link above gives a little detail on the phones plus some a spy shot of AT&T’s offering at the bottom of the post. Not much is known about it, though. Apparently it will be called the HTC Fortress, according to PocketNow. Leaked photos show a dedicated number row on the keyboard.
PDAdb.net, which tracks specs of all phones and PDAs, lets you compare the specs of the forthcoming Touch Pro2 models from T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint — that is, as much as is known so far. PocketNow has a graph of the release dates and photos.
YouTube has a video of the Touch Pro2 from Verizon. It’s short and gives you a good idea what it looks like, but not much else. Engadget has posted four photos of Sprint’s Touch Pro2.
Verizon Omnia II Coming August 23
The word on PocketNow is that Verizon’s Omnia II is coming August 23. This, too, is a pretty exciting phone, with 3,7-inch screen, 489x800 resolution, TouchWiz interface, GPS, 8GB of internal storage, and DVD-quality video capture.
You can read a thorough review on PhoneArena. The review is fairly positive, but again, there's a concern with performance. Some have speculated that these newer devices with speedy processors will show their true colors once they’re updated to Windows Mobile 6.5. I hope that’s the case.
Review of HTC Touch Diamond2
Much of the excitement surrounds the Touch Pro2, but also getting a lot of attention is the Touch Diamond2, which is similar to the Touch Pro2 but without the slideout keyboard.
Pocket PC Thoughts has published a good review of this new device, which has a 3.2-inch screen, 480x800 screen, and the TouchFlo 3D interface.
