Windows Phone 7 News, New Mobile Resources Include Google Buzz

Word has it that Windows Phone 7 could come as early as October. That would be nice to see. In addition to a few Windows Phone tidbits this week, I’ll point you to some new mobile resources.

Windows Phone 7 Update

The website iStartedSomething has a video showing something that will appeal to you if you’re anticipating getting a Windows Phone 7 device: its fast boot time. It takes around 30 seconds, which is significantly shorter than in current devices.

TechRadar has reported on comments by a Microsoft execs regarding some of the details of Windows Phone 7. He says that copy and paste will definitely eventually be part of the software, that the platform may support alternate browsers, and that we’ll be seeing it during the holiday season, sometime between the beginning of October and the New Year.

As I’ve said before, I think Microsoft has done a good job with this new software. And even though Windows Phone 7 isn’t out yet, the Laptop Magazine website has selected it as one of the 25 most innovative products of 2010.

Special Promotion by T-Mobile in Honor of Father’s Day?

TmoNews is reporting that on June 19 in honor of Father’s Day, T-Mobile will be giving away every phone in stock — for free. It’s a bit speculative, based on scripts for two commercials that fell into the hands of TmoNews. But if it’s true, it’ll be a great opportunity to get a device that you’ve been wanting, such as the HD2.

New Mobile Resources

Google Buzz sounds pretty cool. As I understand it, it’s a Twitter-like overlay on Google Maps that lets you see all the “buzzes” that are near you. Until recently the service had only been accessible via Android devices. Now Windows Mobile users can point your browser at buzz.google.com to use the service. Apparently you need to have Google Maps 4 installed. Read more on the Google Mobile blog.

If you’re into Facebook and like accessing it via your smartphone, but are cautious about data charges, there’s now a mobile website for some smartphone users that lets you access Facebook without incurring data charges. Point your mobile browser at 0.facebook.com rather than m.facebook.com. Read about it on CNET.

And finally, Microsoft recently launched a new version of the MSN Mobile website. It has a new look and some new features. But it doesn’t work in the mobile version of Internet Explorer. You’ll need to use Opera 9.5.
