The Third Party Application I Use Daily

Having used mobile devices for so long there are certain key applications I rely on every day. Over the years these critical components have changed slightly, but a few have remained. Picking the one app is tough. Like Clinton Fitch I have used Spb Pocket Plus for many years (with the app closing button and battery meter being vital). I also rely on Spb Diary and over the past couple of months have grown to love Spb Mobile Shell. But the one app I use daily and have for more than any other is pTravelAlarm by Burr Oak Software.

pTravelAlarm Main Screen

pTravelAlarm has been my primary alarm clock for many years. It's a very simple app with a very simple purpose, but it does it very well. It comes with several alarm clock sounds as well as "sleep" sounds, more white noise type sounds (rain, wind, brook, windchimes). You aren't limited to the default sounds though - any wav or mp3 file can be used.

In addition to using pTravelAlarm to wake me up in the morning I also use it for daily reminders. The main reason I do this over appointments or recurring tasks is that those tend to get easily dismissed along with other system alerts. When pTravelAlarm comes up, even if I stop the alarm I keep the application on my screen as a reminder.

pTravelAlarm Sleep

A nice feature of pTravelAlarm is the Sleep mode. This lets you play music (single song, all songs in a folder, or a playlist) until the sounds finish or after a specified amount of time. It's nice to have some soothing music play as you doze off.

Of course in addition to all of this pTravelAlarm mades a nice desktop clock.

So while pTravelAlarm may not be some awesome productivity improving app, it's become a vital one I use daily.

I loved pTravelAlarm too but

I loved pTravelAlarm too but with my new device (HTC Tytn II) it stopped working. It constantly kept crashing my device. I never found out what caused it, so I started searching for a new alarm clock. After reading some reviews I found CradleAlarm from Cradle Software. After looking into it I quickly found this software having even more and better options available than pTravelAlarm. I bought the cheap program and till now had never problems with it and I will never ever miss it on any upcoming new device.

Perhaps it is something for you too...
