Another fine hack from me: make SkyFire run on non-phone devices
By Werner Ruotsalainen, Submitted Wednesday, April 1, 2009
Currently, SkyFire (see for example the roundup HERE for more info) isn't capable of running on non-phone devices: it doesn't even start. This means you can't run it on anything Windows Mobile not containing a phone: Dell Axims, pre-phone (or even current; for example, the 110 / 210 series) HP iPAQ's etc.
My hacks to the rescue! Download THIS archive and unzip the two DLL's into \Windows on your Pocket PC. Don't be afraid - they won't do any harm. They just make your Pocket PC pretend to be a phone. After this, SkyFire will work.

I've been using my iPAQ
I've been using my iPAQ 210 for months with the two DLL's on it so that I can use Jbed to run MIDlets (incl. Opera Mini).
Actually, it was yesterday - after a very long, public correspondence with someone (at microsoft.public.pocketpc) trying to make SkyFire run on his iPAQ 210 (without any success) - that it occurred to me that the two files were also the cause for SkyFire having always run on my iPAQ. This, of course, has caused some confusion in the above-mentioned newsgroup, which has also led me to the solution.
No extra resets have ever been necessary on the iPAQ. The case was the same on my other "classic" PDA's I've copied the two files to.
That is, I think you can safely copy the two files to your device.
Thanks! Great news - now,
Thanks! Great news - now, using the hx4700 seems to be a nice idea! I'll post a follow-up to my SDHC compliance article.

Now I see it was just an April Fool joke...

Thanks! It seems this is why I've never had any problems like this - I've always kept both SkyFire and all Phone / SMS.dll-dependent apps in the main storage (which the iPAQ 210 has plenty).
Any thoughts as to whether
Any thoughts as to whether there is any reason this would not work on a Treo 700W if I turn off the Verizon dedicated phone (to avoid its preemptive nack for running up data minutes at extraordinary rates)? Or would even turning off the built in phone be unnecessary?
Osprey, the builder of miopocket 3.0, has also built a program with Skyfire in a hack of WINCE operated GPS systems (http://gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=126303&whichpage=1)
Thanks!
