Looking for a book on Mobile Web Design?
Cameron Moll, who never sleeps it seems (writes books, gives lectures, runs several websites including a very popular one for web jobs while holding down an awesome day job, while still finding time for a gorgeous wife and four fabulous sons with great names), has just published "Mobile Web Design: A Web Standards Approach for Delivering Content to Mobile Devices".
The beautifully designed 104 page book, which has over 40 full colour screens from actual devices, is currently available as a PDF for only U$19. I was one of 20 lucky 'luminaries' to get an advance draft copy, and I can say with great assurance that the final edition will be worth every penny. There is a 21-page preview available (4.2 meg PDF). Others are singing its praises too: Jo Rabin - dotMobi Director & W3C Co-Chair says "Very good and clearly written. Certainly another great reference to help people find their way in the world of the Mobile Web.".
The first 599 purchasers were entered into a draw to win an iPhone 8GB. Released on August 28th, the book sold briskly, so it didn't take long for 599 sales to happen. People were thrilled when a second iPhone giveaway was added. Whoever wins can substitute a pre-selected device of equivalent value if iPhone support is not available in their area. There are a couple of other cool prizes too, like tickets to big ticket web and mobile conferences.
And for those who like to hold 'real' books in their hands, Cameron has indicated that there may be a printed edition forthcoming, and he's mentioned that those who have bought the PDF will likely get a discount on the dead tree edition.
