Ilium Software NewsBreak – News Delivered To Your Smartphone

Having recently moved to the Smartphone platform I’ve been looking for applications to help me get the same functionality I was used to with my Pocket PC devices. Being as active as I am I rarely have time to read newspapers or go to all the various websites I’d like to read to keep up on all of my interests. I’ve used different RSS readers on my Pocket PC and was looking for similar functionality on my Smartphone. Luckily I found NewsBreak.

NewsBreak has a very simple interface and is very easy to use. One of the nicest features, especially for those who aren’t RSS savvy, is the list of channels (information sources) they provide.

NewsBreak includes a very robust list of channels covering most topics you might be interested in. If you don’t see what you want, you can use the search feature to find channels that are relevant to the topic you are interested in. If you already know the site you want to enter you can enter the URL directly (for OPML or RSS).

Once you have your channels added you can then press the Refresh button and NewsBreak will retrieve the latest information from your channels. Note – you’ll need some sort of Internet connection for this (either wireless or through your phone).

Since I have many channels it can sometimes take a while to update everything. Another feature I really like about NewsBreak is it’s alert feature.

After I start my refresh I’ll go and check my email or do other things while the channels are being updated. When it’s finished I get an alert telling me that it’s done.

If you’re looking for a simple and easy-to-use news reader for your Smartphone I’d highly recommend NewsBreak.

I noticed this and from what I can tell the delay is caused when it pulls the channel image (even though it's cached). I determined this by turning off my phone (leaving the device on) hence disabling my network. The delay doesn't happen in this case.

Would be nice for them to fix this though...
