The first OFFICIAL AKU3.3 ROM out for the HTC Wizard; German only!!

As was reported by the excellent XDA-Developers folks, T-Mobile Germany has just released the first REAL and OFFICIAL AKU3.3 ROM for the HTC Wizard we’ve been waiting for half a year. It’s indeed great news that operators do release AKU3.3 ROM’s for the “outdated” Wizard. Frankly, I wouldn't have thought they would.

A quick glance at the operating system version (as can be seen, it’s indeed AKU 3.3.):

(And some other, related screenshots: A screenshot of the desktop installer; the Device Info screen with the ROM versions)

The direct download link to the file is HERE.

No, if you don’t speak German, don’t run to download it – it’s all German. However, if you DO speak the language, and want an official 3.3 ROM, you may want to check it out.

Some benchmark data and system information I’ve measured / collected on my G3 (!) Wizard:

Boot-in time: ~43s; that is, slightly worse than with some of the not-so-official AKU3+ ROM’s (36s with for example KTamas/bepe AKU3.2 beta) and about 2s better than with Faria’s AKU3.3/8M pagepool with all the niceties installed (!) and enabled (default operation).

Free RAM: 24.36M with an inserted memory card and 25.76M without. That is, it’s way worse than Faria’s ROM with 8M pagepool without a card (28.86) and about the same (24.39) with a card.

Free storage: 42.88M, nothing installed; that is, about one Mbyte better than the Faria 8M version (41.57), while the latter has a LOT of additional goodies well worth the one Mbyte (Adobe 2.0, Intent 20060907, MMS, GB-Tweak, GbcSoft's Task Manager, just to name a few apps of the many pre-installed, free, excellent apps.)

Factory-installed apps:
There’s built-in MMS support
The version of the Intent Midlet Manager is 20061012; that is, pretty new (and newer than even the one in Faria's ROM (20060907)).

As far as third-party apps are concerned (note that I didn’t let the initial T-Mo customization installer run – have soft reset the device right after it has finished the initial screen calibration & the usual questions), it contains Clearvue 2.42.452. There is no Microsoft Live.

Bluetooth

As far as the new 3.3 features are concerned, there is NO Bluetooth FTP support (unlike on the HTC Trinity, which does have it). This is certainly bad news.

Wi-Fi

It, as is expected of a “true” AKU3 update, supports both WPA AES and both WPA2 and WPA2-PSK.

This is VERY good news!!! Most unofficial, “cooked” WM5 AKU3 / WM6 ROM’s don’t do the same!!!:

Verdict

All in all: it could be better and, of course, it'll only please German speakers. I fortunately also speak German (as well as a lot of other languages), but this will be a problem for many.

On the other hand, it’s official - no need for using "cooked", "unofficial" ROM's, which are plain unacceptable in, for example, the enterprise. Hope English versions will follow soon (it's better NOT to try to convert this one into English).

UPDATE (05/28/2007): HERE, there is a long tutorial on "hacking" the German ROM into English.
