Ever wondered how you could make installing applications more configurable, particularly if you install CAB files right on your Pocket PC and not a desktop installer? In addition, ever wanted to access (for opening/writing) a file anywhere in the file system, not just under \My Documents (or from the entire storage cards) from already-installed programs? Have you ever been presented hundreds of files when you tried to access only one, resulting in wasting a lot of time in hunting for a particular file? The free File Dialog Changer for the rescue! 1. As far as installing new software is concerned, you may have already run into the restrictions of it. If you execute a CAB install file on your PDA, you can't direct it to a directory of your choice. You can't even tell the system where it should install it to. Furthermore, You may already have heard of the excellent CabInstl tool, which provides an excellent solution for this. File Dialog Changer takes things a little bit further: it will not only activate when you tap a CAB file on your PDA but also when you install some PDA application from the desktop. 2. Furthermore, as far as accessing files in the file system is concerned, File Dialog Changer helps in that a lot too: it lets you access a file anywhere in the file system. Furthermore, if youhave several dozens (or more) of files of the same type scattered around the file system, in separate subdirectories, it doesn't force you to browse them all when you want to open one of them. Please read this blog entry for more information on installation/bugs. Version 1.60 of this tool has just been released. It's downloadable from here. (Do not left-click this link as you'd do with a traditional link. Right-click and choose Save Target As... from the context menu.)

Well, if nothing else works, try transferring the install CAB files to the PDA and install them there with either CabInstl or File Dialog Changer 1.60.
