Brand new beta of best audio recorder app Resco Audio Recorder out – really worth upgrading!

It was about a month ago that Resco released the first beta of their brand new Resco Audio Recorder series (see review HERE).

The brand new version (beta 3) has just been released, available HERE and sports the following:

  1. Problems with iPAQ 2190, 2490 & 2790 fixed
  2. Don't go to foreground while phone call recording
  3. Don't start recording upon GPRS connection
  4. New high quality, more effective Speex codec version 1.2
  5. Speex decodes long recordings correctly
  6. File name does not contain bad characters when caller's name has them
  7. Recording is correctly finished when memory is full
  8. Portrait/landscape switching corrected
  9. Main menu completely changed
  10. Export & Properties action also in popup menu
  11. Little user interface changes in scheduler
  12. While renaming a file don't capture keys for assigned actions
  13. Huge list of assignable HW key actions
  14. Sort By button in the right top corner instead of Add Bookmark button
  15. "Recording paused" text does not hide while recording is paused
  16. Support for new 800x480 screen

That is, most of the problems with both beta1, 2 (and, of course, the pre-4.x series) have been fixed – except for, of course, the low-quality MP3 recording, in which NoteM, iPlay and VITO’s recorder apps are decidedly better.

Note that I haven’t reported on beta2 because it didn’t incorporate many changes.

UPDATE (05/01/2007): I've tested whether the new Speex codec is indeed better and more effective than the old is. Yes, this is the case: now, it's possible to record phone conversations in 18 kbps / 32 kHz / quality 3 with Speex at 247 Mhz on the HTC Wizard with only slight pauses (and, if you further increase the clock speed, you can entirely get rid of the pauses). The same stands for recording on slower machines: on the PPC2k2 iPAQ 3660, when overclocked to 236 MHz, it's possible to make an excellent Speex recording. Congrats to the Resco folks on this!

Important Note:

Quote:

"Automated phone call recording
"Record and organize every incoming or outgoing call."

Program startup and recording of whole phone call. Store to a special subfolder and name the recorded file with caller/callee's name.

(Both sides recording is hardware dependent. If your recording contains voice of one side only, it is not due to the program's failure.)"

Many devices do not have the built in microphone and speaker wired for simultaneous PDA and Phone access therefore two-way recording are not possible unless supported on the hardware.
