Q: Can I use CF phone (GSM/GPRS) cards in my CF II slot-enabled (meaning not an old Jornada) Pocket PC? Do they offer 3G? A: This is a very common question (see for example this, this, this, this, this and this thread); this is why I'm devoting an entire blog entry to it. You can - the current CF phone cards all support WM2003SE. It's another question whether it's worth purchasing these cards at all. Personally, I wouldn't waste any money on them because the functionality they offer is FAR inferior to any separate (cheap) BT phone (for example, the Sony-Ericsson t610 - my favourite GSM phone -, which is even cheaper than these cards; still, offers much better talk time, much better mobility, BT headset support and, in general, much better everything. And I haven't even mentioned the even better phones like, for example, the Nokia 6230 (lowest price $260 at PriceWatch), which is GPRS Class 10 and EDGE...). The biggest problem with CF add-on phone cards (independent of their producer) is that - you can only use them for calling people with their wired headset - meaning no Bluetooth and not even being able to use the speaker/mike of the PDA. - to be able to receive calls (if you do want to do that - the wired headset is a major pain in the back), you need to keep your PDA powered on except for models like the even more expensive ($229 for the CF card itself; the external battery pack costs you additional money) Enfora GSM/GPRS Compact Flash Card GSM0110. - their reception (and, consequently, the places you can use them at all) is, in general, worse than those of self-standing phones. - none of them support EDGE or 3G and only few of them support GPRS Class 10 (which is much better than plain GPRS Class 8 if you, for example, want to use MS Portrait over GPRS) – for example, the above-mentioned Enfora GSM0110 only supports GPRS Class 8. Therefore, if I were you, I wouldn't buy any of them. A separate BT phone is much better than any of these cards. I also recommend this thread on this question for another summary of what I've spoken about. As far as your second question is concerned (do any of the current CF GSM cards offer 3G): nope. The only way to use 3G on current PDA's is connecting to external 3G phones via Bluetooth.
