Direct the PDA cursor with the D-pad
Q: How can I direct the mouse pointer on my PDA screen with the D-pad? I don't want and/or can't (it's broken) use the touchscreen.
A: Use the free and great Pen Irazu (Without Pen).
It works flawlessly on PPC2k and PPC2k2 devices (I've tested it on an iPAQ 3660).
On WM2003 devices, it likes to mess up the screen if you, for example, click the Start Menu icon or do anything that results in the change of the screen:
However, it can be lived with as, if you start a new program from Start Menu or click the lower light corner (the SIP menu), you'll be able to use them all. (This is what is show on the screenshot – it's possible to bring up the SIP without problems. You'll also see the new/updated contents of your screen if you, for example, go on typing).
On VGA WM2003SE devices in standard SE (low-resoltion) mode, on the other hand, it works just great in Portrait mode, even with apps that switch to semi-landcape mode (for example, Thunderhawk) and games that use GAPI.
If you, on the other hand, switch to Landscape (a thing that didn't even exist at the time this utility has been written), the cursor may work OK for some time; after a while, however, it will surely switch back to using the Portrait coordinate system – that is, you won't be able to click anything in the rightmost third of your screen.
If you try to use your VGA device in native VGA mode, you'll encounter the same screen mess-up as with WM2003 devices.
You can find some more information on this app at http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79972 and http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80029 . Note that the vast majority of the latter thread only discusses defining new cursors, not the actual usage of the app. Also, some of the information there (for example, WM2003+ compliace) can be pretty misleading.
