Do you know ftxPBrowser?
ftxPBrowser is a very nice and, even more importantly, free Pocket Internet Explorer add-on with several strengths; for example:
- as opposed to all the other add-ons, it's very memory- and process number-friendly (see for example this blog entry on the importance of the latter)
- it supports tabs; that is, you can work on several windows at the same time
- its hardware button configurability, full screen mode etc. is pretty good
Unfortunately, it has absolutely no documentation and, therefore, can be pretty complicated at first. This is why I've written some tips:
1. Download the application from, say, here (Pocket PC 2002 users, get your version from here). A single, small (73 or 77 kbytes, depending on the operating system version) file, ftxPBrowser.exe, will be downloaded.
2. transfer this file to the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory. (Note that it can be put in non-RAM areas too; then, just create a link to it into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.)
3. if you have a VGA device and you'd like to use it in the standard SE mode, you'll also need to copy this file to the same directory (that is, you need to force the program into forced VGA mode).
4. start it.
Note that every time you click on a link, you'll be given a new tab. To avoid this (and, more importantly, to be able to post HTML fill-in forms that use the POST method), you may want to disable the by default enabled the New Window icon (the rightmost icon on the toolbar),
.
More information on the application, compared to all the alternative Web browsers, can be found here, in the Bible of Pocket PC Web Browsers (alternatives: iPAQ HQ, AximSite, PPC Magazine, PPCT, BrightHand).
