I work with really large images in Pocket Artist. It won't read them without downscaling on my 64M RAM Pocket PC. Is it worth up

Unfortunately, even the latest, 3.2 version of Pocket Artist can't make use of really large available RAM memories. This has always been a real pain in the back with the application – see for example my remarks of older version in my roundup of Pocket PC image editors and viewers. I've just tested this with the latest, current version, 3.2, by loading a 8.1 Mpixel test image on my 128M RAM Pocket Loox 720. I've reserved 77Mbytes of RAM for dynamic RAM (after loading Pocket Artist) for Artist, as can be seen in here. Upon trying to load a 8.1 Mpixel image, I've been presented the usual error message along with Artist's offering the downscaling to a quarter size. I've also tested it after enabling strach files on the CF card. Then, Artist loaded the image OK but only used about 24 Mbytes of dynamic RAM for the image; the rest (another 20 Mbytes) was stored straight on the card. That is, it's still impossible to handle large (>4-5 Mpixel) images in Conduits Pocket Artist 3.2 without using slowish and prone-to-problems memory cards, even if you have REALLY a lot of free RAM. Therefore, it isn't worth upgrading the RAM at all, just for Pocket Artist. This is certainly a big problem with the application – some other apps (the, in some Pocket PC's, built-in Pictures (a.k.a. Pictures & Videos in Windows Mobile 5) and the excellent Pocket Phojo) can use the entire RAM and can even load/save/edit 16 Mpixel images on a 128M RAM Pocket PC. Spb Imageer 1.2 is also able to make better use of the RAM but only up to 12 Mpixels. (See the "14/8 Mpixel write (where possible)? If not, which is the max. size that is saved OK?" row in my image viewer roundup.) Of course, none of these applications offer the same image editing capabilities as Pocket Artist. You can ease the pain with using heavily optimized and fast memory cards (instead of sending in your Pocket PC for a RAM expansion). Please read this article on this subject – it'll explain everything. (Question also posted to here and here.)

If you mean SDRAM (dynamic RAM) instead of Secure Digital then, it's no longer possible to buy RAM-bbased memory cards.

Back in the days of WinCE 1.0, thre were SDRAM PCMCIA cards; I too had one. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. The best choice now is getting a card with a file system that that turns out the best in your PDA, speed-wise.
