More Information Revealed on Fujitsu-Siemens' Upcoming VGA Pocket PC Phone

FirstLoox user NikJEHummer has posted some interesting information on Fujitsu-Siemens' (FS for short) upcoming VGA Pocket PC Phone which I've first reported of in this blog entry. This information is very important to me and a lot of other PPC power users because a lot of people don't consider the HTC Universal a killer device (one that they'd pay $1000 for) because of its problems/shortcomings/lacking functionality, but would definitely buy a VGA hi-end PPC phone that is as good as a separate Bluetooth phone + high-end Pocket PC combo. Not much is known about the new device as yet except that it will also have a 2700g GPU and VGA output (see the previous log entry on the importance of these!) and also a Compact Flash (CF) slot (which is missing from the N560, the FS C550, the HTC Universal, and, in general, all the new HTC devices). That is, gamers, this PPC will be ideal for hardware-accelerated games (also see Allen Gall's excellent blog entry on this); furthermore, CF freaks, you won't need to buy the Dell Axim x50v/x51v if you need a WM5 VGA device with CF slot. Hopefully the device will retain everything that makes current high-end FS devices the best: the extremely good and bright Sony screen and all the bells and whistles the Pocket Loox 720, the current highest-end VGA model has (USB host, jog dial, CIR, 128M RAM etc). FirstLoox administrator Duncan has also added that more information on the phone will surely be published around CeBit Germany in March 2006 - apart from the rumors, that is.

Well, it's indeed buggy, but that's not the problem of WM5 itself but its present reincarnations on Dell Axims and the (still) icompatible programs (remember the switch from PPC2k2 to WM2003? A lot of legacy apps were buggy then too).

The two software buttons can indeed be a real pain in the back, especially if the given PDA doesn't have two dedicated buttons for them. Unfortunately, very few PDA's do - for example, current WM5-capable/WM5-based HP iPAQ's and Dell Axims don't. I hope F-S will be more clever than these manufacturers in this area too.

I, incidentally, too wish the soft buttons could be removed/hidden - you may want to see this blog entry on redefining them.
