Keyboard Blues: Bad News

I regret to inform you that the production and support of the iGo Bluetooth Stowaway keyboards has been discontinued. After a sad meeting with the iGo people at CES, I learned that the president of the company decided not to continue the line because of the unjustifiable expense of developing all the necessary drivers. I suspected something was up when I found out that no WM6 drivers had been developed yet.

What a sad, sad development or lack of development because the Stowaway Bluetooth keyboards were the best of the best, and there's really nothing out there that I know of yet that will replace it. So, enjoy yours while it lasts, but don't count on being able to upgrade it to a new device.

This turn of events really stifles my mobile productivity for it all centered on being able to use my Stowaway keyboard.

At CES I found a couple of possible alternatives and will report on them as soon as I receive review units.

Farewell Stowaway Bluetooth keyboards. Your absence leaves a big hole in the mobile universe. It was nice while it lasted, but, alas, nothing is forever.

It should be up to the hardware manufacturers (or even Microsoft?) to produce a driver, then. Nokia did include an excellent driver in the N95 firmware (and all their newer, higher-class smartphones) - so could HTC and other companies.

I just got one and it works fine with my Eten Glofiish WM6 device so I am not sure why they would want to stop. But I do agree that it's a great device and I sure hope they change their mind.

I think you can just use the WM5 drivers and it would work.

I've just conducted some thorough tests with the latest OS / firmware versions on all mobile platforms; see the results at http://www.smartphonemag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2453&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
