In a word: with he 6.1 ROM upgrade, the hx4700 will just fly and is HIGHLY recommended.

Strange. (You're the first to report about problems like this. The executable file may have been altared during transmission (CRC errors). Are you sure the transmission of the EXE file was OK and \Windows\Startup has a 4096-byte EXE file? I can even provice a CRC sum of the app if needed.)

Does ActiveSync "see" the device?

Achille, it's indeed offline. Hope it'll be up really soon; otherwise, I'll upload the file somewhere else and/or make it available on the linked forums too.

ika, the 2750 not being a native WM5 device, it will most likely have the same filesys.exe problem as other non-native WM5 devices (incl. the hx4700 and the Dell Axim x50).

If that's the case, I can release a version of the filesys throttler specifically tailored for the 2750. Just follow the steps at http://www.smartphonemag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=hp_ipaq_hx4700_wm5_upgrade_prolonged&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

avatar, to reduce the compaction time, keep everything on a memory card and drastically clean up all the files installed into the main memmory - for example, even html help files in \Windows. Then, the compaction time will be radically shortened.

Thanks for the XDA-Dev tip; I'll scrutinize their solution.

I've found the cause for the CF bug (see my newer blog post(s)). It's another really banal mistake on HP's side. I am currently working on an app that fixes it. Dunno when it'll be ready - have to chew through a lot of MSDN API stuff first.

The filesys patch won't interfere in Sprite backup or in . The latter doesn't even let the filesys patch run.

Thanks Solnyshok, now I'm able to reproduce the problem any time, with 100% confidence. Indeed this is a hx4700-only problem and not a generic WM5 one - my Dell Axim x51v (unhacked, freshly hard reset A06) and HTC Wizard (the latest i-mate AKU2 ROM) don't have the same problems (the former with the same CF cards, playing the same stuff on them).

I've started investigating it. I'll keep you posted.
