not only did it not work on my HP 211 but it would crash after every soft reboot. I was able to boot into safe mode to uninstall it and avoid a hard reset.

Yes, on WM2003(SE), you MUST use this import file - it was by using the file that I was able to restore my WM2003 iPAQ 2210.

I haven't emphasized this in the article because, in there, I've emphasized it only runs on WM5+ OS'es.

Einar, import THIS regsitry file. After a reset, you'll have the sound again.

Dunno, haven't tested the SP-specific version - did you try that one?
