5.6_klod, it's a bit too early to present a REAL, full review of the device; this is why I only elaborated on the new CPU / rachitecture and its capabilities.

Remember the AT&T Tilt / HTC Kaiser (or, for that matter, any Qualcomm-based new HTC) fiasco: they have GREAT specs, while, in real life, their graphical performance is dismal, fully ruling out for example gaming and watching videos (unless you use the costly CorePlayer to do the latter).

If Hal manages to take a HP 214 with him to Barcelona, I'll thoroughly compare it to the hx4700 (its predecessor; still one of the best standalone PDA's ever released) and post a very thorough and digestable comparison / evaluation. I'll pay special attention to finding out bugs / inherent problems like those compeltely ruining the Qualcomm-based HTC devices' gaming / video performance - that is, it won't just be a "specs-based" review.

Based on that, you'll have a much easier time deciding whether it suits your needs.

I don't have a video camera. Also, Werner shouldn't feel shy about asking questions. Mostly we'll be listening to answers any way. I think we can manage with our less than perfect video equipment if need be.

To answer Dale's question, over the forseeable, I believe Microsoft and its partners focus will be on better user experience.

A lot of meetings & appointments. I can't even keep a list of them :)

Dunno if there will be / we should make interviews. Unfortunately, I don't have a video camera with an external, noise/wind-shielded microphone to avoid problems related to the ambient noise (Hal, do you? Or, should I quickly look around for a decent one for a quick loan?). Also, I'm not exactly the right person to be an interviewer in speech (as opposed to writing), given that English is not my native tongue and I, therefore, try to avoid being laughed at by millions of viewers because of my pronunciation :) However, if Hal is ready to be the interviewer himself, I'll do the camera and other offline work. I can also chime in the interviews as well (asking questions and so on) - but, again, please don't laugh at my pronunciation.

You guys are killing me! I would love to go. I look forward to reading your report from the MWC. Are there any interviews lined up? Other than CorePlayer, are there any other new releases you anticipate seeing?

Another big question is, do you anticipate a great deal of User Interface related topics coming up? I know we have heard enough iPhone discussion to last a lifetime, but I wonder how UI-centric the discussion will be.

Sorry for all the questions, but I do look forward to hearing (and possibly seeing some pictures) from the MWC event.

That'd be great! I really hope the CorePlayer folks release (or, provide me with) at least a test version of CorePlayer 1.2 (it's in there that the WMMX enhancements have been implemented, not in the current, 1.1.1 version) I could test the 214 with at Barcelona - I'm really interested in how the new processor architecture speeds up WMMX. According to the multimedia buffs, the optimization is between 50...100%.

Werner, I have been corresponding with HP. My hope is that I will be able to bring along an iPAQ 210 for you to check out.

Werner and I will both be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Feb 10-14. You can contact werner or hal (at) smartphonemag.com if you want to meet up.

I am VERY excited about having Werner represent the magazine at the show. He will do a great job uncovering gems, while I, as owner of the publication, can pursue business partnerships and opportunities.
