780 to 790 .. how to swap?

Hi all,

I originally bought a 780 from Thad... and then later, bought a 780 upgraded to a 790 from a private exchange. The 780 is a much "cleaner" specimen, and I would like to "swap the swap". i.e.: move the chip and programming from the current "well worn" 790 hybrid to my nicer 780. How do I go about the swap?

Note: I have a cd with the 790 "system" software back-up from the gentleman who sold me the modified 780 -> 790 originally.

P.S.: I will have a 780 that is pretty well worn but works well if someone wants it afterward... maybe I should let my 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 year olds play with it? Parts? Please suggest from out there...

Thanks,

Crisp, if I understand it correctly, you have a 780 and another 780 that was upgraded to a 790.

The only thing that changes is the rom chip underneath. Simply unscrew the single screw that holds the rom/ram cover in place, swap out the rom chip, and put the cover back on. Nothing more. Takes less than 30 seconds.

Strongly suggest you keep your other 780 as a backup for parts in case anything fails in your pseudo-790...or sell it on eBay...should still bring a minimum of $50.

Rich,

As always, you have been right to the point and perfectly answered my questions. Thank you. I am going to make the swap in a few minutes, and keep the spare.... just in case. (Maybe I can show the wife - nurse - how to use it and convince her of the utility of such "toys", as she calls them...?)
