Ok, Hi to all, as i am new to the forum. Now here is the question, Can a Pocket PC be hooked up to an external hard drive??? Toshiba makes a new 2.5 inch hard drive (http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=/ 818200000007000000010000659800000001) and i am planning on buying the Audiovox XV6600 (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devices/ devicedisplay.aspx?module=deviceDisplay;PPCPhone;americas;1870) and i was wondering if the two could be hooked together in order to form a Pocket PC with an 80 GB HD. I know that there has to be a way, hopefully with no internal work on the Pocket PC, or as little as possible. Thanks for the help.

As Bob pointed out, there is no point in investing PCMCIA hard drives at all. I've been following the PCMCIA hard drive market for long (I've bought my first WinCE device, the 320LX, back in early 1997 and always wanted to have some real hard disk in all my WinCE devices), and I can only say that the PCMCIA HDD market is decreasing. The highest-capacity Type II form PCMCIA HDD's are 5Gbytes and around 400 bucks. For comparison, you can get a 4GB Microdrive (see for examplehttp://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/micro/overvw.htm for more on them) for under 200 US$ (see for examplehttp://www.memorysuppliers.com/hi4gbmi4cofl.html ), and, off eBay, even cheaper, particularly if you get a Microdrive ripped from a Hitachi Muvo2 MP3 Player. The power consumption, size, and, surely, the price of the two solutions are just uncomparable.

Reainhard:
This to me is misleading cause you can no longer buy a IPAQ with a PC card sleeve. These are discontinued models. Also the setup you suggest is for older external drive units that are no longer widely available. The link you suggest should actually be removed. A few years old now. This is why I suggested the short answer of NO cause as a rule of thumb you cannot do this. In the end anything is possible but too much work involved and aass storage memory cards have really fallen in price. In the end, how much storage do you really want to carry around with you for use on a Pocket PC? ;-)

Unfortunately, your device has neither USB host support (unlike the later Toshiba PPC devices, the Pocket Loox 710/720, the Mitac Mio 558 and the Asus 730(w)), nor CF (USB host cards are all in CF format) nor Wi-Fi (there're some Wi-Fi Access Points that can also contain a 2.5" HDD, for example, from ASUS), so you can't access any external hard disk directly.

Short Answer NO.
You can use a large SD memory card or if the Pocket PC has a CF slot then use a Toshiba or IBM Micro-drive.
