Motorola V710

Does anyone have a motorola V710 on Verizon? If so, how does it work? I have heard that they don't work well with bluetooth. Does anyone use it work with a bluetooth headset, specifically with the Jabra BT800? I am curious how it works with handhelds as well, specifically the hx4700. Thanks for the help.

k2stingray over athttp://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118236 on the V710:

"I'd recommended doing some research on the current state of the v710. There were early rumors the BT on that phone was crippled on purpose by Verizon. However, it may be that the phone will do what you need (i.e., work as wireless modem for PPC). If the v710 is not up to the task, you can still look at going the archaic data cable route. Not as nice & elegant at BT, but still it's an option."

I have a V710 with Verizon. I'd like to share the following response I received today from Verizon Wireless and ask for comments. I have heard others say that the V710 can be used to provide a high speed connection. I don't think this is true[:(]

From Verizon:

"Verizon Wireless offers two options to establish a wireless Internet connection via Bluetooth from your Motorola v710. This feature is only supported on a Microsoft Windows based PC.

The first option is the basic Mobile Office connection, which will allow a connection speed of 14.4 Kbps to the default Verizon Wireless Quick 2 Net circuit-switched data connection or to your existing Internet Service Provider. There is no additional access fee for the basic Mobile Office service, as usage is deducted directly from your regular voice plan allowance. The dial-up networking connection information is listed below.

Access Number: #777
Username: qnc
Password: qnc

The second option is the NationalAccess service, which offers connection speeds averaging up to 60 - 80 Kbps, with burst rates of up to 144 Kbps. NationalAccess is a premium service, requiring the addition of a NationalAccess pricing plan. The pricing structure for this premium service is as follows:

NationalAccess 20 MB -- $39.99
NationalAccess 60 MB -- $59.99
NationalAccess Unlimited -- $79.99

We will be able to provide more information regarding the dial-up networking connection once this feature has been added."

PPC Fanatic,

Have you had a chance to update the phone and test it? I am very curious if this is the phone to get.

Also, Menneisyys, thanks for the links, very very helpful. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, the v710 indeed has tons of problems. Have you visited the following forums?

They contain a lot of info, PPC-wise too.

I didn't get around to it today, but sure; I'll let you know, as soon as I do! [;)]

If you don't mind, will you let us know what it fixed? I really want to get a bluetooth phone, and this looks to be the best option. Thanks for the time.

Well...not a simple answer - yes and no[?] Here's my long answer:

The Headset profile and 'Dial via Bluetooth' option work flawlessly - but after that, that word no longer applies.

File transfer - as is expected when Bluetooth is advertised in a cell phone, PDA, etc.; and was intended to be functional by Motorola - was disabled by Verizon. This was so you could spend money sending photos over their network.

DUN (Dial-Up Networking profile) was also not included, and therefore . This' a weird one. I couldn't get it work w/14.4 kbps, free (uses minutes)network. Called Verizon & HP to no avail.

I tested it with the 144 kbps 1xRTT network & it seemed to work fine? For some reason, I got the 14.4k to work later. It worked for a while, went out, got it back, then it was intermitten?? This whole thing is weird, since neither should work, or both. But the main thing the fact that neither of them should've worked w/o the DUN profile![?]

As you may know, Verizon decided to disable pretty much all of the Bluetooth features, except the Hands Free profile. I read about the V710, and waited months on end to get this phone as soon as it came out, and was very disappointed.[V] [:(!]

I told the reps that since there are thousands of others who feel as I do, I'm sure they'll face repercussions. They may have not taken my little voice seriously, but I guess they changed their mind when a Class Action Lawsuit filed![B)] Now they decide to change their mind. [^]

VERIZON's UPDATE FIXES SOME & BREAKS OTHER/S:
I've been waiting for this update for months, it finally came out about a month ago & went to get it today. Unfortunately, it takes about an hour, so maybe I'll pass by Bryant Park during lunch 2mora and drop it off[?]

For now, I only know that if fixes the File Transfer (OBEX)- the major issue - and "breaks" other stuff. The only thing I know of that is 'newly' disabled is something that has to do with trasfering MP3's and the Transflash memory card. It's hard to get specifics from people who aren't familiar w/the technology.[V]

I'm 100% sure how it may affect features like DUN, and other features that either worked or did't. Maybe some1 who already got the update can offer more insight. Sorry for the long message, but I just wanted to save as many V710/potential V710 user's as much time and energy as possible. Hope this helps.[:)]

OK, so did the V710 work with the iPAQ? I would imagine that it will work with the BT800, and hopefully its advanced features like CID, and call lists.

While you picked the one model (BT800) I haven't tried with it, I can vouch for some others:

V710 works great with the Motorola HS820 and the Jabra BT200, BT250 and BT250v.

I my experience, none of them worked w/the iPAQ hx4700. Although, this may have to do w/installed programs, configuration, etc.; Hope this helps.
