You may want to read, for example,http://www.smartphonemag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15268 .
I also recommend reading post issues of Pocket PC Magazine so that you get a picture of what Pocket PC's there are, what to expect of them etc.

I suggest making a new topic saying something like "In the market for new PDA." Be sure to tell exactly what you'll be using it for. You'll get a great idea of what models to look into.
Good Luck!
Palm V, Ipaq 1910, 1935, and 3835. Pocketop foldable IR keyboard (yea, the infamous one itself). Kyocera 3035, Data Connectivity Kit for connecting the 3835 and 3035 for wireless internet free with Verizon (plug). And sd cards seamlessly interchangeable with my Samsung digital cam of course.

i dont really need the 38xx, as i said, a friend made me an offer
i looked on Ebay couldn't find that much to give me a price range.
I dont know so much about PDA, that's why i turned to u guys...
I agree with you tomtiguy, we should purchase one tool for our needs but in this fast evolving computer world i must give-in to Menneisyys theory: The best devise for a given ammount of $
...
this give me a better idea of what to look for.
thanx a lot guys

(Sorry for the two edits: I'm in a hurry to swim and, consequently, made some mistakes in my English. Had to correct them.)

I do like my old PDA's too (this was one of the reasons I haven't sold them) and I often take them out just to play with them if I have some free time. Still, I think it's better to get a current device now in 2005 unless lololocass has some special reason for sticking to the old iPAQ 38xx series (for example, the need for a reflective scrrn - outdoor visibility -, or iPAQ sleeves).
tomtiguy
Wow I couldn't have been more confused in this forum. I thought lololocass was selling it. I'm sorry. No, $160 is not a good deal for you. But I still stand by the $110 to $150 suggestion, but only if that's the model that's perfect for you.
It's true that the screen is horrible. It's too big for comfort, and it doesn't have SDIO capability (meaning the only thing able to be used in the SD slot are memory caards). No GPS, cameras, wifi or anything like that can be used without buying an iPAQ expansion sleeve.
Again, I apologize for the confusion.

Well, he had stated "I,ve been offered one for 160 USD... is this good ?", which, I think, (I'm not a native English speaker), means "someone wanted/wants to sell me a 38xx device for 160 bucks".

Yeah, but even then they aren't more expensive than the 160 US$ 38xx.
Yeah, this is why I asked lololocass if he really needs the 38xx. Its unique advantages (iPAQ sleeve) really pale in the light of its weaknesses and, particularly, the very bad screen and the lack of SDIO / replaceable battery.
Yes.

You'r right. It's a good question, but this is about selling lololocass' 3800. Lololocass, try not to let your buyer read this forum. And, hey, Menneisyys, I like my 3835. Personally, the older (inferior) PDA works perfectly for me because I use the Pocketop keyboard which virtually can't be used with newer PDAs due to the company not updating the software well enough. Or free enough. And I love the serial capability for connecting to my Kyocera. 'Course you've read all my lit on that. So in rare cases the "inferior" models are perfect. And cheap evidently.

By the way I just updated my first post. It was meant to be a response to the original message, and it didn't make sense due to the two replies before it.
I looked at the link you posted, and the lowest price is well over $140 including shipping. The early bids say $78, and the shipping is about $16-$19. The ending bids push them up to the $140/$150 range. However it should be kept in mind that this is a different model we're looking at. Is the Axim serial capable by the way?

Indeed there aren't many 38xx PDA's on eBay. I don't debate the US$ 70 is low, taking into account that the (very few) 38xx devices on eBay are around 150 bucks.
It's another question whether it's worth buying a 38xx series device at all. What do they offer compared to the x30, except for the ability to use the iPAQ Sleeves, a slighly (albeit not much) larger screen and better outdoor screen visibility? They're worse in almost every respect, I'd say.
So, my question remains: why buy a 38xx, when there're technically much superior, current devices at much lower price points?

I've just checked Dell Axim x30 Mid's on eBay (http://search.ebay.com/Dell-Axim-x30_W0QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfromZR10QQfrtsZ100QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ3QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsacatZQ2d1 ).
They start at 100 bucks and a LOT of them can be bought for less than 160 bucks, the price for the technically MUCH inferior iPAQ 38xx. Also, there're tons of them to choose from. They are a MUCH better deal than any 38xx device.
tomtiguy
I disagree, Menneisyys. Although $160 is high, $70 is way low. I would suggest between $110 and $150 depending on the condition. Do you have an example of where the 3800 series can be purchased for less than that?

$160 is a great deal for you. I recently bought an iPAQ 3835 on ebay for about $150 out-the-door and it was in perfect condition. If the PDA is in very good condition and you're selling exactly what came in the box it's probably not worth more than $160. A good way to compare prices is to look on ebay or other online selling sites. Out of curiosity, are you getting a different PDA?

70 US$ is an O.K. price for a 38xx series device.
lololocass
Ok, thanx for the advise !
What price would u suggest? arround 70 US max ?

160 US$? I woulnd't get it for so much money, especially not if it's not the 3870. The 38xx series is pretty oudated, has very bad SD support and the worst color TFT screen on all Pocket PC PDA's. For 160 bucks, you can even get a second-hand Dell Axim x30 Mid, which is orders of magnitude better than the 38xx series.
