CAB file installation problem

Copy the CAB file onto your device and execute it there with File Explorer or any file handler app.

I've followed your instructions... but my file explorer cannot read the cab files that I've installed in my ppc .. why?...

You need to click them in your Pocket File Explorer. Just start Pocket File Explorer on your PDA, navigate to the directory you've uploaded them to and click them.

Another reason for this can be that you've downloaded an SH3/MIPS version of the CAB file. Then, you'llreceive messages like about incompatible versions.

I've already click them using my Pocket File Explorer. But still cannot open the files.

And for your info I've downloaded the right version of cab file that is ARM's version. Or maybe something somewhere not right with my file explorer software ... and maybe you've got an idea with the best software to install into my ppc for solving this problem.

Eaxctly, which CAB file are you speaking about? Can you give me the URL? I may want to give it a try too. Probably it's not meant for PPC's at all.

It's (+Startpage.1.2.cab) working too. Are you sure you've uncompressed the CAB file from the ZIP before transferring it to the PDA?

yes I've uncompressed the CAB file from the ZIP before transferring to my h6300 .. but still cannot .. and this message was pop-up "There is no application associated with ".....(cab file)" . Run the application first from within the application"

Now I understand. Then, all you have to do is the following:

- if you have Resco File Explorer, tap-and-hold the CAB file until the pop-up menu comes up. Choose Associate With and enter \Windows\wceload.exe in the "Choose the program..." field.

- if you prefer using a registry script instead, import the following one:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cabfile\Shell\Open\Command]
@="\\Windows\\wceload.exe %1"

here, the last, [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cabfile\Shell\Open\Command] key is the most important. Check whether the default key in it is \Windows\wceload.exe %1. If not, change to it:

- a third possibility is using myExtensions v1.1.0 (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/myextensions.shtml ). Install it, run it and click OK on the first screen. Choose .cab from the list. In the Command: field, enter \Windows\wceload.exe %1 (note the trailing %1!):

Please note that this concerns not only CAB files but also anything. Then, naturally, the program to run will be something different, as with the registry entry you need to edit.

Thanks a lot for your help, I will follow your instructions , and I've hope I can make it. just one more problem I'm facing now my explorer is not the Resco explorer, and also I'm do not know how to used registry editor, but maybe this will help other people that facing the same situation and with more knowledgeble than me :D, . For my self , I will try to find that resco explorer or wait for user friendly cabinstaller to come, because the important software like betaplayer,agile messenger ,magicss,today's info,systems info,ms reader6,vbar,flash are already successful installed into my ppc, I'm quite happy already. This isn't a problem - just use the Associate With option (see bullet one) in Resco and your CAB's are working again.

Ok, I will try my best to find this resco explorer, or if you can give me the url for installing that software .. that can greatly helping me...

"Geek.com Geek News - Free File Explorer replacement for Pocket pc,....", I going to try this one first , if cannot work, then I've will install free trial resco from pocketgear.com by next week, because my cradle left at my office :)... happy hollyday...

Actually I'm also not sure... because geek.com was not totally opened(during that time.. I'm surfing using my ppc)... Your reviewed about that Total Commander is verry good and in detailed explaination.

I find cabinstl pretty user friendly for installing CABs. And it gives you the option of installing the programs wherever you want (unless the program insists on being installed in main memory).

wow...this Total Commander really fantastic software ,my problems about cab file solved already ...and also installation for zip files directly from my ppc now is very straight forward.
