Installing App in Compact Flash

I just recently downloaded Acrobat Reader 2 for PPC and I noticed that it takes a lot of memory. I transferred it to the CF card but then I could not open it with the icon in the programs menu. I can open it using file explorer going to the CF card. Is there a way to make it work thru the icon in the programs menu but letting it stay in the memory card? Thanks.

There will still be cases when this relocation/installing your apps to a storage card isn't good enough because Pocket PC applications tend to put DLL, HTML, BMP, TSK and CPL files in the RAM (in \Windows); in this case, you may want to do some manual hacking. Therefore, you should always follow the Tips section here at PPCMag (http://smartphonemag.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=4 ). I always post my latest relocation hacks/tips in there. My latest relocation hack for Spb Pocket Plus 3.0, for example, results in freeing up 2 Mbytes of RAM, which is quite much on today's 32/64 Mbyte-RAM PPC's.

Also, you can relocate most of your already-installed apps into your CF card very easily. Please read my article athttp://www.firstloox.org//forums/showthread.php?t=3705 on this.
As far as to decide which apps may go to a memory card/File Store and what apps must remain in the main memory, please also readhttp://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36674 ,http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=346928 andhttp://www.smartphonemag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16852

In the future, however, you should install your apps right to the memory card instead of copying them this way - that is, you must install your apps straight to the memory card upon installing. To do this, upon installing, always click No when ActiveSync asks you whether it should install the given application in its default location (that is, the RAM). Then, just choose your CF card from the drop-down menu.

Now that you've already installed it and it's running OK off the memory card, you only need to create a working shortcut for that. For this,
1. start File Explorer (FE)
2. go to the Acrobat 2.0/Reader directory on your card
3. tap-and-hold AcroRd32.exe
4. select Copy from the menu
5. go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs still with FE
6. tap-and-hold a unused area in there (don't click any existing icon!)
7. choose Paste Shortcut from the menu
