Recently got contact with a customer for a sony cassiopea problem. He had lost his contacts in his outlook and luckily had them on his pocket pc. Unfortunatly when tried to copy them over they did not show up in outlook and were removed from the pocket pc. When investigate found a file a .DAT which had a bunch of gibberish in it but in middle of gibberish had names of his contacts. Unfortunatly can't find a way to use this file, other then view it in notepad. Is there a way to recover his contacts and other information that was transferred over or lost? Any help is appreciated.

I'll do my best.

HEhehe was told not to worry about it anymore but if that software becomes available would be nice to see, even if not for this problem.

Well, it's still better getting a card than sending the contacts database to someone else for restoration - think of hackers.
(I could also restore the contacts for him because I also have an E-125, but if the contacts list contains anything confidential, I think it's the best if he tries it first so that he knows noone else has his database. If he doesn't want/can't get a card and the database doesn't contain anything confidential, PM me and I restore it.)

Thanks for all the help will tell him about the card, course sometimes users don't take those answers well. Of course he may have to pull the too bad ntil such a file browser is developed. Thanks.

Nope. Probably with my forthcoming backup file browser, but it's at least some weeks that I also implement WinCE database restoration (file restoration and the broadest suypport for all backup formats are my main goal).

Can the file be restored via outlook or the main PC to get to contacts? Might have to tell the guy that about the card thing. Thanks alot

OIC. That is a problem... tell him to get one ASAP. Even a thrown-away 8 Mbyte one will do.

Hehehe expected the worse and it happened, he has no card to speak of. Just the pocket pc's built in memory.

You just insert the card in the PPC, start the backup program and choose restoration. You don't need to explicitly access the card - the backup app will recognize it.
Of course, do this after you've copied the backup file in there on a desktop card reader. Do you have a card reader in your desktop computer?

How do i access the card via the pocket PC? Never worked with one before.

Try renaming outstore.dat to Backup.dat and copying it to the \Backup folder of the storage card. Then, try restoring again.

Could not restore, the user has never done a backup or restore before on the pocketpc. I tried using under programs/utility/cardbackup program to restore. The two dat files are called outstore.dat(this one looks like it has the contacts) and repl.dat. They are both on his computer and pocket pc. Thanks for help so far.

Great! The built-in backup program in the E-125 creates Backup.dat files in the \Backup directory of the storage card.
That is, you only need to copy the file to a CF card in the \Backup directory and start the backup program. It's in a subfolder of Programs.

Was an E-125, and use activesync to transfer the files over.

1, what Casio Cassiopeia device is that? Most probably I'm able to help - I have both an E-125 and a (PsPC) E-11.
2, what backup program did he use to backup/restore?
