You can't relocate your PIM databases onto your storage cards. You don't need to, however- their memory consumption is some hundreds of kilobytes at most.

You should, however, read the threads on program relocation and storage card installation here at the PPCMag Tips forum:

http://smartphonemag.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=4

I also recommend the links athttp://www.winmobiletech.com on the same subject.

thank u very much..... i dont understand why its taking up so much space.... maybe coz of pocket informant... can i install that in the SD card

Many people have reported slowdown problems after installing to flash ROM cards. You, however, may have better luck.

What I think is, assuming you don't have too many programs installed,

1. your PIE cache is full of files. You want to go to Tools/Options/Memory and click Delete Files.

2. you have tons of mail on your PDA. Fire up Messaging to see how many you really have. You may also want to check out the size of the \Windows\Messaging directory.

After selecting Tools >> Empty Deleted Items, shouldn't the files in the \Windows\Messaging folder automatically be deleted? If not, do I have to manually maintain/clean this folder?

Thanks -

I've run into cases when, for some reason (didn't have time to track down the reason) they weren't automatically deleted. That is, if there're no mails anywhere in your Messaging client, you can freely delete the contents of \Windows\Messaging and its attachment subdirectory.

Thanks for the reply; good to know.

Perhaps, when I am absolutely sure nothing in my messaging client is needed, I should just delete the files in the \Windows\Messaging and \Windows\Messaging\Attachments folder? Setup to run in a batch file, that seems much simpler than selecting all of my emails, clicking delete, then emptying the deleted items folder.

What do you think?

[orange] To help you with your space problem here are a few pointers.
1. Clean out your Temp Folder
2.Clean out you temporary internet explorer files
3.Download Space Watch to find big files that take up too much space [\orange]

Well, selecting all your emails isn't complicated if you use Ctrl-A, which selects all of your emails at once.

I'd stick with the Messaging-based delete because Messaging because, as described in my posts here, Messaging uses a separate WinCE system database to store mail headers; that is, if you just delete the contents of \Windows\Messaging, these headers won't automatically be deleted.

BTW, my next (big) article (I start working on it as soon as I finish my current one on PPC Web browsers) will discuss everything related to memory.

well Menneisyys...
that is something ill be definitely looking forward to.... i now feel that i made a mistake by buying the 2110... should have gone for the 2755.... but anyways whats done is done.... maybe ill buy a 2755 or which ever other model come when they release WM 5... lets see how it works... hope my practice keeps up coz that would mean big bucks for me here in india...

I'm absolutely sure you can relocate most of your apps/files into the iPAQ File Store/onto storage cards. Therefore, you shouldn't switch to a 128M RAM device because of your RAM shortage.

Feel free to post it. Please make sure you don't post anything confidential - for example, army stuff, personal stuff etc.

Create an account on a free Web space provider and upload your mage there. Then, you will only need to link to your image from here.

here is the image...

You're welcome [:)]

Feel free to ask, even in here, in public, so that other readers can also learn from our discussion.

Hi Menneisyys,

In one of your last replies to me, you referenced an article on the Loox forum where :

"Windows CE database named 'fldr1001904' " was mentioned as a database storing mail headers.

I am still finding several "lingering files in my messaging folder, even after using the Messaging 'Empty Deleted Items' function. Can I simply delete the files manually (first you suggested this would be okay, then you suggested considering not doing this).

What if I delete them, then explore the database (ref above) and delete all message header information? In which case, I ask, where is the database located? Also, is it a Pocket Access database? If not, what format is it in and can another utility besides Phatware's allow me to browse it?

Thanks!

Yes, you can. If you empty the mail header system database(s), the files won't be automatically deleted. You need to delete them yourself.

Unfortunately, there're no automated tools to do this, as I've pointed out in my article on generic cleaning utilities.

You may delete the database records and the files independently.

quote: In which case, I ask, where is the database located? Also, is it a Pocket Access database?

It's a system database - not a Pocket Access one. You need to use special tools like Pocket dbExplorer to access them. You can also find some additional info on them in the above-linked article .

For example, SKTools also has excellent system database export/import/emptying capabilities. I'd still go for Pocket dbExplorer because it has a much better DB browser (individual record viewer).

Very interesting. I happen to be a database developer. Could I create 'system databases', by hand (using either of the tools you have mentioned or another one you have not) for client-server solutions?
