Return to factory settings Ipaq 3950

I would like to return my Ipaq 3950 to the factory settings.

It thinks that the inbox and calendar should be synchronised with a non existant server -but hangs before I can ever tell it not to..

I have far too many contacts (12k) on there to tweak manually and they have mis synchronised so they are all in the same company.

It hangs it I try to synchronise it with my PC.

I'd like to restart from a clean Pocket PC. How do IO do this?

punt again? How do I return this to factory settings? The Ipaq won't synchronise with the desxcktop and just hangs.

Press and hold down the power, the bottom right (iTask) and bottom left buttons (Calendar). While keeping all these three buttons pressed, soft reset your device and make sure you keep the reset button pressed for at least 1-2 seconds. The backlight should automatically turn off and the screen should (but is not guaranteed to!) gradually fade. If that's the case, wait some seconds. Release the buttons/reset. Now, wait some seconds more and press the soft reset button again.

If the above doesn't work (the device just restarts as usual after a simple soft reset), repeat everything right from the beginning. Sometimes you'll need to repeat this several times before it works - especially on later models like the iPAQ 2210 (note that on later models, pressing the Power button is no longer needed).

Note that PPCT also has a thread named Let's Create A FAQ On Hard Resetting Various Devices also has some info on these problems - for other PPC models. The iPAQ-related tip there isn't as wide-reaching as this one, though.

OK - I get it. No one on this forum able or willing to help. I give up.

Punt - any suggestions?

If I now try to synchornise It gets part way through the "Looking for changes" stage and then the Ipaq hangs.

How can I fix this, or reset my Iapq to factory settings?

The problem seems to have metamorphosed. Contacts is just a blank with the "New" tab visible and hangs. I really just want to delete everything and start again.

Please note that you can actually reorder your contacts very easily. If this would really help you (because you have non-synchornized data in your contacts database), describe your problem and I explain how your stuff can be fixed programmatically, in some minutes.
