Making cab-files (no sync function)

Hi!

At the moment I don't have any hardware for syncing my Ipaq at home. I do have a wireless network (and the wireless feature on my Ipaq) so I can download stuff straight to my device. But most files are .exe and my Ipaq don't like them. Do you know of any way to make .exe files cabs somehow? Or maybe you know some other way I can download stuff straight to my Ipaq?

Cheers,
Jes

Hi Jes,

In addition to Bob's and Menneisyys' authoritative advice, if you have a Macintosh (as I do--the principal reason for not having Sync capabilities), you could use File Juicer, which is inexpensive shareware and does a reliable job of extracting CAB files.

Good luck.

Thanz, I'll try that at once

In addition to what Bob said, you may want to try renaming EXE's to ZIP files (with, say, Resco File Explorer or Total Commander - the built-in File Explorer doesn't support full file renaming) and try to step in them with any ZIP-capable browser (Spb Pocket Plus + File Explorer combo, Resco File Explorer etc). If you're lucky, you'll see the CAB files in there.

Alternatively, you can give a try to, for example, Dweller or FreeCabs, which may have the CAB files of the given program. Please see my PPCT-frontpaged article on this subject here.

I also recommend this thread on other advanced, CAB install tips & tricks.

You need to run the EXE on the desktop via Activesync. If no PDA is connected, at least the CAB files associated will be extracted from the EXE and stored in a folder. Then you can copy the CAB to the PDA manually. The other way is to get the CAB only from the manufacturer.

The EXE itself is designed to run on regular desktop Windows only and cannot be converted.
