Mobile Outlook?

I'm the quintessential newbie to Windows Mobile and the world of 'smart phones'. Please, no flames. I will endure snide comments and jokes however.

I recently purchased a Cingular 8525. A co-worker mentioned mobile Outlook and asked if I had it. I didn't think I did. I did some digging on MS's mobile website and it advertises Mobile Outlook but there isn't a whole lot of information on it. I couldn't find anything.

Is this going to be released? Is it already released?

Thanks for your patience and help.

The device has a version of Mobile Office. This includes Word, Excel and Outlook. Outlook in itself consists of the email portion (Inbox, Sent Items, etc.) as well as Notes, Tasks, Contacts and Calendar. All of these will synch directly with your computer Outlook - if you use it. These are already installed from the factory on the device.

If you are at a business that has installed Goodlink servers, then you can be added on the server, and send/receive all of the above Outlook items without ever needing to connect to the computer. If you do not have this, then you would need to install ActiveSync and synchronize when connected. The former is pretty much always connected, you would receive an email on the 8525 close to about the same time as it is received at your computer. The latter is more static, similar to the older Pocket PC's - you sync and it updates. Then when you disconnect, it doesn't update again until you reconnect the cable.

The next part of the puzzle is the fact that you would have received a CD with the device that has Outlook on it. That CD is to install Outlook on your computer. (wouldn't install it if your're on a company machine - you either already have Outlook, or a completely different email system like Lotus Notes, Banyan Vines, etc...)

Hope this helps.
