A H2215 and a Tecom BT3021 = no hair

I think I found something worse than the shrinkwrap on music CD's.
It me trying to configure an access point to work with my Ipaq.

I am getting the null modem dialing problem when I try to setup to use the accesspoint with my H2215 to connect to the internet.
It was setup per the instructions in the manual with a passkey, shared key enabled, secured encrypted connection. I have it setup and using a dhcp conection to my cable modem and have it using dhcp out to the clients. Per the AP's manual and per the bluetooth dongles manual for my laptop this is OK.
I set the accesspoint up and was looking at web pages within minutes of setting it up with my laptop. Then I tried what I really bought it for.
I can see the unit but I have to turn off encryption for the PDA to pair with it, I have to turn off security to go any further.
Then after pairing and Checking services I find Lan access using PPP. My futile attempts to connect so far have run into it trying to use the BT null modem. It says connected then jumps to the dialing page. The null modem has a entry for a number and something has to be in it.
If I could not get the laptop to hookup I'd understand this but I'm typing this now using it via bluetooth.

Are you trying to use "Connect to the Internet" or "Join a personal network" from the Bluetooth Wizard on the iPaq?

Can you provide us the exact steps you took to pair with the access point? The reason I'm asking is that I don't understand about turning off encryption prior to pairing. Then again, I admit that I haven't tried the Tecom AP.

I am using the "Connect to the internet" selection. I was not able to pair the Ipaq to the AP with encryption and security on. With them off I could pair and choose to make a shortcut "Lan using PPP" on the menu. But clicking on it resulted in me putting my name and password in and it saying connected and jumping to the null modem dialing screen. I got my wifes Palm hooked into the AP late last night so I know the laptop and the palm work with it. I am looking, is there a way to use scripts with the Ipaq ? The palm needed a short script added to have it hook up with the AP.

Can you post what was in the Palm script?

Go to the page for a log in script and type this in on a Palm Tungsten T3

I think I am going to visit the Palm newsgroups and see if I can sell the Tecom BT AP to one of them since it works very well with the Palms. For now I have done the following, I setup the laptop to link into the 802.11b AP and then I connected the h2215 to it via Bluetooth. Advantage to this is the laptop can be in the back bedroom so I can use the Ipaq in the living room. I went to Hp's forum site and after wading through the messages I suspect win mobile 2003 on a Ipaq is very picky on how it does Bluetooth. It sure is easier on battery life though compared to using the 802.11b card in the Ipaq !! Which is why I'd like to get it working correctly. Now to figure out which consumer brand of BT AP does work with both Ipaqs and Palms as we both can't connect at the same time to the laptop. I created a monster when I showed her the Palm on the internet.

OK, I have a question,, the Belkin Bluetooth AP is supposed to work real well with the Palms,, I found one reference to it partially working with a H2215,, has anyone gotten one of those to work ? I do not care if if can't connect to sync as I cradle mine to do that, I just want to be able to have both units use Bluetooth at once to pick up mail and such . If so I'll order one.
Thanks.

One thing comes to mind when you mention that the AP works with the Palms very well and not the Pocket PC. The Palms do not use fixed UART baud rates. Therefore the Palm can communicate at any non standard baud rates like 21000 as an example. The Pocket PC follow specific baud rates like 9600, 19200, 28800, 33600 etc. Therefore I would try to set the baud rate to like 9600 on the AP and see if at least you can establish a connection or bond the Pocket PC to the AP. Then play with the settings and increase your BT's baud rate.

Good luck

Well I am glad I did not order a new Bluetooth access point yet. I applied the update to the Bluetooth driver's for the H2215/H2210 and now I can use the AP . It paired and linked to the internet on the first try. No lockup while it tried to dial or anything.

Good to hear.
