http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/HandheldiPAQ/us/download/19668.html (software updated November 4th)

This fix is for avoiding the frustration of the 2003 operating system Bluetooth caused hardware power button lockup failure issue on the 2200 and 5500 series iPAQ's. It also includes the 5400 series device if it has been updated to the 2003 operating system.

Apparently this issue increasingly crops up when you turn off the Pocket PC while the Bluetooth receiver embedded in the Pocket PC is running. Eventually, the only way to turn your 2003 OS iPAQ on is through soft resetting.

Bluetooth GPS users will often experience this issue within the 2003 operating system because of their frequent Bluetooth use. This fix clears up other Bluetooth issues as well...

P.S. David Hettel and I recommend a soft reset before and after installation. Also you should pull the battery after this update, and perform a soft reset, then replace the battery in most cases to be able to turn the WLAN back on.

Might have been asked before but is this valid for the HX4700.
Every time I use BT satnav and end the journey, I close TomTom first then the bluetooth locks up and I have to do a soft reset

This could be a due to a system processing burden. Check to see that no other programs are running at the same time as the GPS and that you have about 12M storage and 6M of memory space free of use. (Start>Settings>System>Memory) If this doesn't clear it up, it could be a GPS issue, rather than the device.

I have an IPAQ 3970 running Pharos GPS (bluetooth version). I get frequent system lockups using a variety of APPs while bluetooth is active. I see no ROM fix for 3970 in your list nor ar HP site (??)

current levels: Product Revision Level: 2.5
ROM Date 12/20/02
ROM revision: 2.10.10
OS Version: Windows CE 3.0
Any clues?
Thanks, John

I usually look below the "sticky" posts for new posts, so I noticed this one later than usual. I hope that you haven't used the 5500 series driver update.

Shawna - I just want to make sure before I load the updates.

I have an IPAQ 5455; 2003 operating system, with a Haicom BT GPS receiver. The GPS acquires the satellites, connects via BT for a couple of minutes then drops the GPS receiver.

Can I use the following link on the 5455?
h5500 series:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/HandheldiPAQ/us/download/20669.html

or is it only for the 5500 series.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using the newest version of iGuidance (2.0) and the new Emtac Trine BT receiver along with BT Registry tweak (free at handango):

I've had no problems so far. I'd advise you to search Brighthand for a long forum thread pertaining to this very issue. They advised not using your SD card for map data and instead putting your maps on high speed CF card of at least 256mb and installing the mapping program to main memory. It appears there is an unresolved issue with large files when loaded to the SD card. The bright hand thread is very informative. Tommy

I've been unable to get my Ipaq 2215 to hold a connection to my Delome Bluelogger.

I've installed the ROM upgrade and the Bluetooth fixes on the HP site. The Delorme tech was nice enough to test my 2215 and he couldn't get it to hold a connection either. I got a new 2215 from HP and am having the same problem.

I lose the connection after 5 or 10 minutes, faster if I use the Delorme Street Atlas software to track or zoom in and out on the map.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Power lockup fixed but failure on reconnect with the bluetooth GPS receiver.
Turn off the powe ipaq 5555 ( latest ROM upgraded) while the GPS software still actives. When turn power back on, it still fail to reconnect the BT GPS signal from the GPS receiver. To fix this problem, we still need to soft reset.
Suck suck suck.

NOTE on upgrading your ROM: It may appear that it is cutting off the Activesync connection and failing. Be patient, because it is probably working.

I learned the hard way. I did not trust that it was working with my 5555 iPAQ ROM update since Activesync kept disappearing as if it failed, and I restarted the process multiple times. Your patience should pay off. The new ROM is stable an performing well thus far!

I am going to trust that the Bluetooth stack is really the most recent one in the latest 2000 series iPAQ ROM. (Please let us know if you come across the hardware power button not performing at any time. I doubt you will.)

It appears that way, but am not certain. I tried contacting HP but they say my warantee has run out so it appears one has to pay them to answer a simple question like this, as there is no other area on their site to get simple questions answered. Not good policy in my opinion. Tommy

From reading the Bluetooth revision numbers, I believe that the Bluetooth fix is included in the new ROM. (I have a great deal installed on my 2215, so I have been waiting for really good timing to update the ROM and reinstall everything at once.)

Shawna, sorry for the duplicate empty post, am new user.
I had not updated my HP2215 since last summer's purchase so installed the #20498 ROM update, but my question is: Does the new HP Rom update #20498 for my HP2200 series include the bluetooth fix # 19650, or should I also install this bluetooth fix seperately? I intend to purchase a bluetooth GPS reciever and mapping software in near future, so have not as yet even used the bluetooth feature but have seen many a post regarding this lockup or other related bluetooth problems, so just wanted to install all the updates\fixes before I go any further with GPS. Thanks, Tommy

I have read that the 02 XDA II and the MDA II have Bluetooth issues, some of which affect Bluetooth GPS.

Here is a third-party program which claims to fix the issues:
http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth

I would like to hear feedback on the Bluetooth in these Pocket PC Phone models and how the fix software works.

Please let us know if you extracted a fix from Widcomm or Billionton. Here is the contact information for Widcomm: support [at] widcomm [dot] com
Technical support is available via email. Response and follow-up will be within three (3) working days from the time of receipt. Please include your name, company and daytime phone number with all support requests.

Billionton is probably the one who has to license the patch, and would therefore be the direct distributor of it. They should be the ones to talk with first:http://www.billionton.com.tw/website/index.html

Could any of these Billionton drivers be an upgrade/patch:

Yes, the Billionton BT card I'm using uses Widcomm drivers. The latest version is for PocketPC 2003. I looked at their webiste...do you know if they have a fix yet?

Thanks

It is a Widcommhttp://www.widcomm.com/ Bluetooth stack related problem. If Casio employs Widcomm, it could be related.

I'm not sure this is only a 2003 OS issue. I got a Billionton CF-BT for my Cassiop E-125 and now I get the same power button lock-down where I have to reset the PDA.
