I have a 4355 and try to use SDs as much as possible for new app storage, but it seems that the internal memory still gets pushed. Even though the apps reside on the SD, what amount of internal memory is necessary to run apps on SDs? What type of apps (other than what came with the ppc) have to reside on internal memory?

You can manage your menory easily if you use Magic Button. Its a good free program and you can set it to close all open programs or to close programs when you exit (freeing memory. Its far easier to use then the "stop program". The 4355 leaves the programs in memory even when you exit. You can download magic Button for free from

Download the Pocket PC version 2002, 2003. (Not the ARM version. It has plenty of features and really makes the 4355 a pleasure to use. Read the documentation it has a lot of powerful options. You dont need more memory, you just need it managed better!
The 4355 is a sweet machine. But I had to download about a dozen programs to make it really hum.

Whats happening is that even though the physical files themselves are on SD, when you execute them they are pulled into main "working" memory to run, so thay don't actually run on the SD.
To free up some working memory, go into the Memory control panel applet and stop the program.
As for increasing internal memory, PPC Tech's does it, but they generally charge an arm and a leg.
