New Golf GPS by GolfPS:http://www.mobileplanet.com/product.asp?dept%5Fid=2320&pf%5Fid=MP731350&mscssid=KC0H0XLGNH2X9GR72MF14944HF8GB5BB&listing=1 Details from the company:http://golfps.com/index.htm This program may help you better select a golf club, track your scores, and strategize with a colored map (with detail such as tee boxes, bunkers, fairways and greens for all holes of the course and some maps also include water, trees and other hazards), which moves with you through your game and has a playback feature which replays the location of lies and distances for each shot. (GolfPS should work well enough during your game that using a stylus is optional. [^]) Shawna Kelly

Maybe an optional discounted Golf GPS round can be included in the next GPS Summit! [:D]
Where might the next GPS Summit be in the US? (Hopefully on the beautiful West coast where the weather is usually great for outdoor GPS!)

Thanks Hal, the Pocket GPS Summit 2003 was a success. We'll be posting news about the event over the next day or two. We had tons of GPS hardware for people to look at, test including the latest Bluetooth GPS Hardware, GPS Mice, GPS Software and in-car mounts like Brodit, Arkon and Seidio. We received hundreds of questions over the course of the weekend, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There are a few Golf+GPS software packages out there - all look interesting. I haven't tried any. That being said, I can't imagine walking from the cart to my shot, with my iPAQ on my hip - I hit badly enough wtih carrying my PDA, thank you! Also, with the inherent error rate of GPS, I wonder how accurate the results would be. Might be better off with one of those scopes that measures flag height.
On the other hand, for roughly $50 (once you have the gear) it may be the cheapest golf accessory you every buy.
I took at look at the website of www.starcaddy.com last month - it looks intruiging. What really impressed me was how complete their golf course database was - even rinky courses I didn't expect them to have.
Cheers,

PS. If you are a great golfer GolfPShttp://www.golfps.com can make you look even better.
If you are not that great at playing golf, this Golf GPS can make the game more enjoyable and it should make you look better too. It makes real golf a little more like you are in a digital game. (A pleasurably simple digital game that is.)
It is actually entertaining enough mapping a hole that you don't even have to play it to have a good time.

It was a fulfilling experience mapping a hole with GolfPS! [^] Drawing with your body movement and satellite signals is a rewarding EXPERIENCE in itself. The included Mapper program guides you through the process.
TIP: You can fill in the par information from the Prop button during or after your hole mapping. After tapping on the Prop button, follow the arrow at the bottom of the information input screens to the par and etc. input. You can input this information from the desktop GolfPS Mapper version as well.
The accuracy of my first attempt at using GolfPS Mapper was amazing. Since you must walk around the perimeter of the features you want to display, it takes a good deal of walking time to map, but it is more simple and satisfying than you would expect. [^]

I checked out Pin Distance from their web site. Either their program is not as complex as GolfPS or they don't do their product justice on their site...
GolfPShttp://www.golfps.com can automatically score for two people and keep track of scores for four people. You don't have to take your stylus out of your device to use the GPS golf program. It keeps a running scorecard which can be viewed at any time.
GolfPS measures distances automatically or there is also a measuring tool to measure distances between any two points.
[^] It also plays back every shot, and its position, in your entire game!
GolfPS also includes an extra program to help you map your course if it is not already mapped! (They may also map it for you for a reasonable fee.)

Have you seen Pin Distance ? It's an app that has been around for some time now on the Palm, and has just been released on the Pocket PC.
Take a look at www.blackfishsoftware.com

[;)] PS. You can impress your golf buddies or associates with proof of your long drive shot with GolfPS.
You can also impress them by mapping your golf course yourself. Tips are offered on the site:http://golfps.com/mapyourcourse.htm
Or you can request GolfPS map your course (if it is not already mapped) and just brag about how you were the first one to have the map custom made:http://golfps.com/requestmap.asp id="Arial">
