Deleting all Outlook data quickly
Submitted Tuesday, March 18, 2008
For various reasons, you may need to delete all or large portions of your Outlook Mobile Contacts, Calendar, or Tasks entries. For example, you might want to delete a number of contacts at a company that went out of business. The ability to do this quickly is limited on Windows Mobile devices. Here is what you can do:
Touch screen devices
- Pre-WM 5: In both Contacts and Tasks, you can tap and hold on a Contact or Task and drag the stylus up or down, which will highlight multiple items. Tap and hold again on the highlighted items and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
- WM 5/6: Tasks is the only Outlook program that supports tapping and dragging to select and delete multiple items.
Non-touch screen devices
There are no built-in capabilities to delete more than one Outlook item at a time.
Other options
- Remember that you can mass-delete any Outlook data on your desktop version of Outlook. After you sync your device and delete your data, re-sync your device to apply the changes.
- There are third-party programs that will give both touch screen and non-touch screen devices the ability to mass delete Outlook data. These include SKTools (s-k-tools.com) and PIM Backup (pim-backup.en.softonic.com/pocket) (freeware).
